June Summer Orientation – Week 1

June 5th, 2018

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1528652337254{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Dear Culture Project Family,

“If you are wise, you will be reservoirs and not channels. Channels let their water flow away, and do not retain a drop. But, the reservoir is first filled, and then, without emptying itself, pours out its overflow which is ever renewed over the field it waters.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

After a fruitful 2017-2018 mission year, our three teams have converged upon our spiritual home, St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, PA for two weeks of training and formation. We are extremely honored to welcome five new missionaries to our growing team, who officially begin their mission with The Culture Project during these weeks.

Our daily routine has been grounded in prayer; praying the divine office with the monastic community, daily holy hour and mass. We also have the opportunity to be formed by different members of the monastic community who make themselves available to us by administering the sacraments, offering spiritual direction, and giving talks about the spiritual life.

Already into a week of training, new and veteran missionaries are being reawakened to the true spirit of the mission and charism of The Culture Project. Our Founder and Executive Director, Cristina Barba, spoke to us about who The Culture Project is and why we exist. We have also had the opportunity to dive into human formation through self-knowledge and temperament assessments. All of these serve as beneficial to living in community with others who are different from us. And finally, we’ve been able to view our human dignity and sexual integrity presentations given by seasoned veteran missionaries.

This is such a crucial time for our mission program and sets a foundation for the upcoming mission year. In my three years with the mission, these time periods that are specifically devoted to training and formation ground me in this mission and remind me why I am called to serve, recognizing that the first mission field is my own heart and my primary goal is my own holiness. I cannot give what I don’t have, which is why I am grateful to our devoted Support Staff who guide us through these weeks of training, as well as the monastic community of St. Vincent Archabbey.

Thank you for being part of The Culture Project Family through your continual prayer and ongoing support. We could not work to build a culture of life and love without your commitment and support.

Peace in Christ,
